This is part of Monday’s Finish the Story!
When the team heard the dam explode, they knew they had limited time to make it to safety.
The captain of the craft gave out the warning:
‘This is it guys, we are in trouble. Hold on to your oars’
I was hoping for something a little more substantive to get us out of the increasingly treacherous rapids. I was however a model of bravery, quietly, or as quiet as you could get with the sound of crashing water all round, saying my prayers. Others were more demonstrative, shouting expletives and another froze. The captain at the back had a puny oars, we all did, and I wondered how he would guide us to the shore. At one point I thought he would cry ‘Abandon Ship!’ But in a moment of heroics we overcame the rapids and had the sense to abort mission before things got out of hand.
