If you could learn a trade — say carpentry, electrical work, roofing, landscaping, plumbing, flooring, drywall — you name it — what skill(s) would you love to have in your back pocket?
Maybe welding on a building site? Dealing with all that metal must be pretty emasculating. Learning about structure, tension, resistance, pre-stress. How things stand up, or fall down. How to build something from nothing. Yeah, that would be great.
When it comes to other trades, I like the idea of DIY, because I like the idea of fixing stuff, whatever. Something practical for my little impractical self. Again, satisfaction to fix that broken chair, or rewire to dimming lights, or reslate the roof, or relandscape the garden, or fix the faulty sink, or retile the kitchen…OMG! Just saying it makes me want to scream with delight! Better slow down and let the experts take over…otherwise you may get me frantic.
