Widget

I know what it is, and at the same time I don’t: it’s that thingy on the side of your blog that gives information on any number of different aspects of your site. In my case, it gives brief summaries of book reviews. But what does it actually mean. The definition as provided by Google search reads: ‘…web widget is a software widget for the web. It’s a small application with limited functionality that can be installed and executed within a web page by an end user. A widget has the role of a transient or auxiliary application, meaning that it just occupies a portion of a webpage and does something useful with information fetched from other websites and displayed in place.’ So in my case ‘Goodreads’ is the other website of which information is displayed.

Time to confess: tell us about a time when you used a word whose meaning you didn’t actually know (or were very wrong about, in retrospect).
